On the occasion of UN International Lake Day, Project Management Institute (PMI) Chennai brought together its members and the local community for a Lake Clean-Up Drive at Mangal Eri Park, near Thirumangalam Metro, Chennai, on Saturday, 22 August 2026, from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
What started as a clean-up drive became much more—a morning of community engagement, sustainability, learning, networking, and collective action. 🌍🌱

The initiative contributed to several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
💧 SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation – Promoting cleaner water bodies and awareness around protecting local water resources.

♻️ SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – Encouraging responsible waste management and environmental stewardship.

🤝 SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals – Bringing together PMI members, local residents and community leadership to create meaningful impact.
🤝 Community Participation & Appreciation
We were delighted to have Area Councillor Ward 92 V. Thilagar participate in the initiative and appreciated PMI Chennai's efforts towards sustainability and community impact.
The participation and encouragement from local residents made the event even more special. Several residents stopped by, enquired about the initiative, appreciated the team's efforts and encouraged PMI Chennai to continue such community-focused activities.
🌱 More Than a Clean-Up Drive
From cleaning a lake to connecting people, sharing knowledge, encouraging member participation and creating community awareness, the morning truly demonstrated the power of collective action.
💧 30+ PMI Chennai members came together and collected 200+ kg of waste, including plastics and other discarded materials. The collected waste was carefully segregated into appropriate bags and handed over for proper waste management—turning collective effort into meaningful environmental impact. ♻️💚
