What Academic outreach do ?
The goal of Chapter’s Academic outreach is to establish a collaboration with college and university students at the beginning of their project management career journeys through mutually beneficial relationships. We are uniquely positioned to facilitate academic outreach activities through our wide chapter community and global resources. Stakeholders in the academic community include universities and colleges awarding academic degrees at the associate, bachelor’s, postgraduate, and doctorate levels. Within these institutions, the high-potential opportunities are programs teaching one or more credit-bearing classes in project management topics, a related area of study, or offering a full academic degree or minor in project management.
PMI Chennai chapter engage in academic outreach with faculty, students, and administrators at universities and colleges for :
- Connecting students and faculty to the numerous valuable resources available with PMI and its chapters
- Providing learning and networking opportunities that can enhance the career paths of students studying project management
- Increasing the opportunities available within higher education for individuals seeking careers in project management and related fields.
- Bridging relations between academia and project management practitioners
- Support students’ career-long learning and employability through education, networking, and practical skill- and credential- building opportunities
- Help students prepare for PMI’s highly valuable demanding certification exams
- Further develop the project management standards
- Support and guide Institutions for program accreditation through PMI’s Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC)
- Expanding project management teaching and connecting the community to share and generate knowledge
WHAT PROGRAMS DOES PMI OFFER TO ACADEMIA?
The PMI’s academic programs initiative focus on engaging with academia to advance the profession of project management and reach emerging project professionals early in their career journeys. The programs offered by PMI can serve to open doors to relationship building with faculty by offering services, resources, and access to funding.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Project Management Institute offers scholarships for students studying project management and related disciplines. Academic scholarships range from US$1,000–US$7,500. The call for applications typically opens in March of each year.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT CURRICULUM AND RESOURCES
Created “by faculty for faculty,” the curriculum guidelines offer flexibility based on an individual’s needs. Faculty can use the curriculum to create an entire project management program, individual project management courses, or enhance an existing course tailored to the discipline in which they teach.
Resources include:
- Instructional materials for foundational and advanced courses
- Topical knowledge modules that provide student learning outcomes
- Course outlines specific to geographic region and discipline

The Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) is the world’s leading specialized accrediting body for project management and related degree programs, accrediting programs at the bachelor’s, postgraduate, and doctorate levels offered within institutions of higher education worldwide. Throughout the past two decades, the discipline of project management has become increasingly recognized within the academic community and more than 170 higher education project management programs have achieved GAC accreditation. The Global Accreditation Center is committed to fostering excellence and continuous improvement in academic degree programs related to the field of project management.
