On Sunday, 21st September, the PMI Chennai Chapter hosted a Virtual Dual Knowledge Sharing Session, organized by the Women Engagement Committee and the Social Impact Portfolio.
It was a truly enriching experience — a rare convergence of two seemingly distinct domains: science and sustainability on one hand, and harmony and wellness on the other. The session beautifully illustrated how these worlds can seamlessly come together to inspire meaningful learning.
🔹 Session 1: Nuclear Energy as an Alternate Renewable Source of Energy
Our first session was led by Dr. Kalirajan S (Managing Director, EDF Nuclear India), a visionary with nearly four decades of experience in the nuclear power sector. His insights were both timely and profound.
Dr. Kalirajan walked us through India’s nuclear journey and its ambitious roadmap — scaling from the current ~9 GW to a projected 100 GW by 2047. He highlighted the role of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), indigenous Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), and fast breeder technologies in shaping a secure, low-carbon energy future for our nation.
What stood out was his ability to balance technical depth with accessibility. Nuclear energy often sparks debates — safety, waste management, and public acceptance. Yet, he explained how India is addressing these challenges through sustainable waste handling strategies, stringent safety protocols, and international collaborations, making nuclear a reliable partner in our clean energy transition.
Key takeaway: Nuclear energy is not just about power generation — it’s about energy security, industrial growth, and a meaningful step toward net-zero emissions.
🔹 Session 2: Ayurvedic Routine for Life’s Harmony
The second half of the session felt like a gentle shift — from powering a nation to nurturing individual well-being.
Vaidya Anandhi Jeyagopal, an Ayurvedic doctor, yoga practitioner, and lifelong student of music, shared her wisdom on Ayurveda’s timeless principles. Through the lens of dinacharya (daily routine) and rtucharya (seasonal routine), she reminded us that balance is not achieved through drastic changes, but through consistent, mindful habits.
She illustrated how aligning our sleep cycles, diet, and lifestyle with natural rhythms can bring harmony to our physical, mental, and emotional health. In a world often dominated by speed and stress, her session was a grounding reminder that wellness is within reach when we live in tune with nature.
✨ Reflection
We couldn’t help but notice the perfect symmetry:
While nuclear energy empowers nations with sustainable strength, Ayurveda empowers individuals with sustainable health.
Together, they reminded us that true progress lies in balance — between technology and tradition, power and peace.
A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kalirajan and Vaidya Anandhi for their wisdom, and to our engaged audience for making the discussion so lively and meaningful.
Because whether it’s Atoms or Ayurveda, every step toward sustainability matters.
